What is a domain name​

Domain names are used to identify computers on the internet. They are used to make it easier for people to remember the addresses of websites.

Structure of domain names​

  • TLD: top-level domain, e.g. .com, .org, .net
  • SLD: second-level domain, e.g. google, facebook, twitter
  • Subdomain: subdomain.sld.tld, e.g. www.google.com, mail.google.com
